An expectant mother . . . .

Twenty years ago last weekend I was sitting in Plant City Florida eating strawberry shortcake with my mother and my Aunt Margie and Uncle Bill who were visiting mother from Pennsylvania. Among other things, we talked about the excitement of my pregnancy and that it would only be a few weeks before I'd get to see my bundle of joy for the first time.

Last weekend, I sat in the bleachers at Fort Jackson, South Carolina, with my husband by my side as we waited expectantly for my son - that unnamed bundle of joy I held so close to my heart twenty years earlier, and waited so expectantly for - to march across the parade field as he graduated from basic training.

The joy I felt last weekend was no more or no less intense than what I felt twenty years ago. Just different. Tears still clouded this expectant mother's eyes as I waited for my son to march past me - just as they did twenty years ago as I waited for him to arrive. This time, though, there was pride in my heart. Pride in knowing that my unnamed bundle of joy of twenty years ago has grown into a fine young man. A young man who has made his mother proud and whom I have no doubt will make his country proud.

Oh, Liz -
It's SO good to hear from you. I've been praying and wondering if you were alright through the terribly Kentucky weather.

I sat here watching the photos of your weekend to celebrate your son. I had tears in my eyes and a catch in my throat! You deserve to be proud of him - and he deserves our pride for being willing to serve us and our country. Thank you for sharing him with us.

I'm with Adrienne - I was really getting worried! I know that so many in Kentucky were hard hit with the ice so I'm glad you posted. And even more excited at your son's graduation. The pride we feel in our hearts for our children must be a glimpse of what God feels for us when we do good - it just seems to spill over doesn't it? blessings, marlene

Ditto- we all love hearing from you & are so happy to hear you're OK!
I can't imagine a more proud mother to have a son who's willing to sacrifice for his country! Thank him for all of us and God's speed to wherever this new adventure takes him.

What a wonderful stroll down memory lane past and present told as only you can spinning those words so we all feel like we were there in the bleachers sitting next to you.
May he always bring tears to your eyes and joy to your heart.

A few weeks ago I discovered your blog and read it from one end to another. You and your husband did what my husband and I are planning in a couple of months...only, we haven't decided on TN or KY (we are also in FL). We use to live in TN, have close relatives there. Hubby is from KY and we have relatives there, also. Decisions, decisions! It will probably end with us buying where we can afford.

We are all proud of your son and the other young men and women serving our country.

I was like the other commentors, and wondered if you were snowed in or not. (Strawberry Festival starts February 26 this year...can't wait!).

That is awesome! I only wish I could have seen the pictures. It said the slideshow was empty. Am I doing something wrong?

Hi Liz!
My heart fills with pride at what a wonderful young man you son is! Please give him a hug and a kiss from me...I am honored that he will be defending our country for me and my family.

On another note...I am sooo sad that you were here in Hendersonville at Needful Things and didnt let me know! I would have love to have met you. In fact, I go there all of the time and have been there 2 or 3 times in the past two weeks. We might have been there at the same time! If you are ever coming through here again, please let me know. I would love to spend even a few minutes with you and your husband!
Hugs,
Penny
